Unspoken energy of knowing

Following the pathway to learn about the lost art form of authentic midwifery and birth keeping has been a windy pathway. Birth is simple, natural. No learning is needed to give birth, it is a process which just happens. Just as our bodies amazingly grow children, they birth children.

With the increased medicalisation of this process, and the loss of traditional caretakers of this rite of passage, much new learning and remembering is happening and needed. This is an uncovering of the ways and methods which support the path into parenthood to be one of strength, whatever happens in the process.

I was there when my mother gave birth to my beloved brother when I was 8 years old. This was the first birth i was with. I attended Midwifery school for one year at univerity because it felt like a really solid practical tool to share with the world, and to be able to activate and serve the socially activist part of my being. Then I chose to take my learning out of university where i have a choice of what i experienced and who my teaches were. This beckoned me to a postmodern holistic birth-keeper and midwifery school in Spain. Much learning also came from the community and way birth is seen here.

I have come more to know that birth is one of the roots of it all. I always like to get to the bottom of things and i feel that when birth is a deep foundation of health. Jenine Pavarti baker is well known for saying “peace on earth begins with birth”.

This unspoken energy of knowing continued to push me to learn ways that i had not heard much of before. Traditional Midwifery, apprenticeship based learning, holistic pregnancy care, Patera’s and lay midwifes became my teachers and a place of deep holding. Teaching me of my own womanhood and presence. The practices are foundational.

Mothers have many choices, options today and challenges. It is the same for birth guardians. Birth is sacred.

I wish for the knowledge surrounding power at birth to be common knowledge. This is our bodily right to know the capacity and capability of our bodies. To then be able to know what can be best for our children. And to have the care we want. The time and presence and correct scientific and emotional knowledge. How we care for birth says a lot about out society and with one in three women in Australia experiencing birth trauma i am so happy to see many many people stepping up. Doulas, Midwifes, mothers, fathers, families providing exceptional support web.

I humbly learn continuously and have a heart full of passion.
